Photo story: ‘Hamilton, Jefferson’ engage in debate

Thomas Jefferson (Clay Jenkinson) and Alexander Hamilton (Hal Bidlack) appeared Dec. 12 at the Clements Library for a debate on the first principles of government and society.

Jenkinson, a writer, scholar and commentator, is widely acclaimed as a Jefferson impersonator. He also hosts the nationally syndicated public radio program ‘The Thomas Jefferson Hour.’ Bidlack teaches undergraduate political science and has been a military officer for 19 years. He twice served as director of global environmental affairs for the National Security Council.

Shaw Livermore, professor emeritus of history, moderated the debate.

A special exhibition of the papers of Jefferson and Hamilton is on display through Feb. 21 at the Clements Library.
