Photo story: Students showcase sustainable
designs
Bob Grese (left), director of Nichols Arboretum and associate professor of natural resources, and architecture student Joon-Young Kim discuss Kims design for environmentally sustainable structures in the Arb. At the Feb. 5 winter open house Exploring Sustainable Architecture in Nichols Arboretum, students showcased design plans and models in the James D. Reader Jr. Urban Environmental Center.
During fall 2000, three architecture classes explored design ideas for renovation of the Arboretums existing field office and caretakers cottage or for constructing new facilities elsewhere in the Arb. The project allowed students to learn about sustainable architecture and about relating buildings to the landscape that surrounds them.
