Urban Garden ready to join Matthaei’s summer splendor

Still under construction, but dedicated July 8, the Urban Pocket Garden, top, at Matthaei Botanical Gardens is ready for its permanent and container plantings.

Designed by K.C. Runciman Landscape Architects of Milan and funded by the Ford Motor Company Fund, this garden next to the Conservatory presents gardening that uses a scale and planting selections suitable for an urban patio or deck.

Existing gardens at Matthaei, bottom two photos, welcome the new garden with full summer splendor. (Photos by Paul Jaronski, U-M Photo Services)
