A 13-member search advisory committee has been appointed by President Lee. C Bollinger to help identify candidates for the position of provost and executive vice president for academic affairs. The provost is the chief academic officer and chief budget officer for the University.
Current Provost Nancy Cantor, who has served since September 1997, is leaving in July to become chancellor of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Bollinger has indicated that he will appoint an interim provost by the beginning of the next academic year.
Bollinger announced that, as in the last search for U-M provost, he will chair the search advisory committee. Committee members will be: Linda M. Abriola, professor of civil and environmental engineering; Susan E. Alcock, Arthur F. Thurnau Professor and associate professor of classical archaeology and classics, and assistant research scientist, Kelsey Museum of Archaeology; David Ginsburg, the Warner-Lambert/Parke-Davis Professor of Medicine, professor of internal medicine and of human genetics, and investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute; Michael D. Kennedy, vice provost for international affairs, director of the International Institute, associate professor of sociology and associate research scientist at the Center for Russian and East European Studies.
Also: Earl Lewis, dean of the Horace H. Rackham School of Graduate Studies, vice provost for academic affairs-graduate studies, and professor of history and Afro-American and African studies; Kyle D. Logue, professor of law; Mojtaba Navvab, associate professor of architecture and chair of the Senate Advisory Committee on University Affairs; Shirley C. Neuman, dean of LS&A and professor of English language and literature and of womens studies; Matthew Nolan, president of the Michigan Student Assembly and student in LS&A; Timothy P. Slottow, associate vice president for finance; William R. Roush, the Warner-Lambert/Parke-Davis Professor of Chemistry; and Karen Wolff, dean of the School of Music and the Paul C. Boylan Collegiate Professor of Music.
