The leadership gift for the project has been provided by alumnus David Finn. I was looking for a way to help the Marching Band and recognize Prof. Cavenders contribution to the University, he says. The tower project was the perfect fit.
Designed by Daniel Scully of Keene, N.H., the tower will be constructed primarily of high-strength I-beam steel and concrete and will feature the seal of the Marching Bands. Stairways with railings will enhance safety, and the base will be enclosed and lockable, providing a small storage area. Three flagpoles cap the design, lending a more festive atmosphere.
We are very excited by the prospect of the new tower, says Marching Band Director James Tapia. It will be a source of pride to all members of the Michigan Band family and help establish Elbel Field as one of the premiere marching band rehearsal sites in the country.
