Fighting fire with fire
Horticulturalist Jim
Dickinson points out growths of purple loosestrife at Matthaei Botanical
Gardens willow pond. The non-native invasive species has pushed out
other vegetation around the pond and threatens to take over wetland
habitats across the country. The Gardens is part of a national program
that has been testing the appetite and hardiness of another non-native
invadera tiny Asian beetle that feeds on the loosestrife.
