The Department of Dance is presenting A Salute to Liz Bergmann, a performance event honoring the former chair of the department. The performance, scheduled for 8 p.m. Oct. 27 in the Betty Pease Studio Theatre, Dance Bldg., will feature dance alumni in a variety of solo and group dances and readings.
Bergmann (shown above), who received her undergraduate degree at the Juilliard School and her masters degree at the U-M, was chair of the Department of Dance from the early 1970s through the mid-1980s, helping to create a professional training program in dance that is now recognized throughout the country. Since chairing the U-M program, Bergmann has been a faculty member at Shenandoah College and the Florida International University in Miami, and is currently director of dance at Harvard University.
Bergmann will offer a free master class in modern dance technique 11:30 a.m.1 p.m. Oct. 28 in Studio A, Dance Bldg. Admission to the performance is free. Seating is very limited. For more information, call (734) 763-5460. Photo courtesy Department of Dance
