Photo stories: 'They went thataway'

Whether they ran fast enough to compete with the president or just took a leisurely walk, participants in the fourth annual Fun Run at noon Sept. 8 in Nichols Arboretum were in a great mood for the event. Walkers and runners alike enjoyed the 5K event (3.1 mile) through the Arb. At left, assistants were on hand to make sure runners went the right way and didn’t get lost in the woods. Below, runners and walkers gather to spend some time talking and enjoying the scenery. The Fun Run is not a race.

President Lee C. Bollinger (in the upper right photo) appears to be checking his times with James Kosteva, director of community relations. Members of the band played near the waters of the Huron River to add to the tempo and provide extra encouragement. Water, juice and bagels helped refresh everyone after the event.
