Photo stories: Surgeon-turned-sculptor displays work
William Smith,
professor emeritus of surgery, has been sculpting in wood for nearly 20
years using sumac, manzanita and what he calls the Cadillac of
wood, black walnut. During his days as an active faculty member, he
says, My wife always knew when I had something on my mind when
Id go down to my workroom and whittle away. Smiths
whittling is on display in the main lobby of the Cancer and Geriatrics
Centers Bldg. through Nov. 16. Photo by Martin Vloet, U-M Photo Services
