Students line up for research

First-year and some
second-year students are eligible to take part in the Undergraduate
Research Opportunity Program (UROP), in which each student is paired with
a professor who requests undergraduate students to work in his or her
laboratory or research environment. Students choose from hundreds of
projects and may work with other UROP students or by themselves with the
researcher and his or her staff. Each fall, students visit the UROP
office to pore through the thick books of possibilities, sometimes only
finding room to sit on the floor or in corridors. Photo by Rebecca A.
