Mike Wallace is coming Dec. 7

Mike Wallace will join the University Symphony Band as narrator of Aaron Copland’s Lincoln Portrait. The Symphony Band concert begins at 8 p.m. Dec. 7 in Hill Auditorium. Admission is free.

The historic significance of the concert’s date and the country’s current military involvement, determined conductor Michael Haithcock’s choices of symphonic works. Works to be performed include:

  • Schuman’s Chester Overture, based on a Revolutionary War hymn by William Billings;

  • Stucky’s Funeral Music for Queen Mary, dedicated to the victims of the Pearl Harbor and 9/11 attacks;

  • Divertimento, Opus 42;

  • Darius Milhaud’s Suite Francaise, written to honor the Americans who fell in France;

  • Aaron Copland’s The Lincoln Portrait.

    Wallace, a Navy veteran, will narrate.
