Mike Wallace is coming Dec. 7
Mike Wallace will join the University Symphony Band as narrator of Aaron Coplands Lincoln Portrait. The Symphony Band concert begins at 8 p.m. Dec. 7 in Hill Auditorium. Admission is free.
The historic significance of the concerts date and the countrys current military involvement, determined conductor Michael Haithcocks choices of symphonic works. Works to be performed include:
Schumans Chester Overture, based on a Revolutionary War hymn by William Billings;
Stuckys Funeral Music for Queen Mary, dedicated to the victims of the Pearl Harbor and 9/11 attacks;
Divertimento, Opus 42;
Darius Milhauds Suite Francaise, written to honor the Americans who fell in France;
Aaron Coplands The Lincoln Portrait.
Wallace, a Navy veteran, will narrate.
