Officers from the U-M Department of Public Safety (DPS) are looking
for a man in connection with at least one unarmed robbery last week.
DPS issued crime alert 2002-24 Oct. 30 after two West Quad residents
filed reports with DPS. In one incident, the suspect was confronted
by a resident around 9 p.m. after she reportedly noticed him leaving
a resident's room with her wallet. The suspect returned the wallet
without incident. Minutes before, the suspect reportedly had approached
another resident and intimidated him into giving him money. The
suspect is described as a black male in his mid-30s, 5 feet 10 inches
tall, 240 pounds, with a medium complexion, unshaven, and crooked
teeth, and wearing a black cap, red work coat, green pants and black
work boots.
The description is similar to those given in connection with a theft
from South Quad Nov. 1. In the Friday evening incident, a man reportedly
approached the resident and asked for donations for the homeless
shelter. He also asked to use the telephone. While he was on the
phone, the resident noticed the man looking through a wallet. After
the man left, the owner of the wallet discovered that $135 was missing.
Anyone with information regarding these incidents is asked to call
DPS immediately at 734/763-1131. Residents are strongly encouraged
to keep their rooms locked at all times.
