Senate welcomes interim president

Editor’s Note: Faculty and staff are invited to attend a Presidential Search Forum 4–6 p.m. Oct. 29 in Aud. B of Angell Hall, sponsored by SACUA and the Senate Assembly. Regents will be on hand to gather input and suggestions to help in their search. The following letter originally was sent to the Board of Regents.

SACUA is pleased to learn of former Business School dean and Professor B. Joseph White’s selection by the Board of Regents to serve as Interim President to commence after President Bollinger’s departure at the end of this semester. We are very grateful for Professor White’s willingness to serve the University in this manner and we are grateful to the Regents for their excellent choice.

Based upon our past experience with Professor White, including his participation in a SACUA- sponsored MLK Day event and his role in the academic integrity portion of an Athletic Department self-assessment, we are confident that Professor White, as Interim President, will continue the University’s tradition of honoring the faculty’s role in shared governance.

SACUA stands ready to support President Bollinger as he prepares his departure, to be helpful partners with Interim President White during this important transition and to assist the Regents in any manner during their search for the next President of the University.
