Local sights and sounds to air on “Good Morning America” this week

U-M, Ann Arbor and the state of Michigan will be featured on ABC’s “Good Morning America” program this week. The segment, “50 States, One Nation, One Year,” will air between 7–9 a.m. Oct. 4 on WXYZ, Ch. 7.

The feature highlights one of Ann Arbor’s richest traditions—Saturday football games at the Big House. From the Michigan Marching Band’s practice at Elbel Field to pregame tailgaters in the parking lots around Michigan Stadium to action from the Wolverines’ Sept. 21 game against Utah, the show presents clips of game day.

On the medical front, the segment features Dr. Arnold Advincula, clinical assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and a breakthrough in robotic surgery involving a myomectomy, the surgical removal of a uterine fibroid tumor.

In addition to various scenes of the U-M campus, city of Ann Arbor and the state, “50 States, One Nation, One Year” also looks at the U-M Bowling Club and the manufacture of bowling balls in the state of Michigan.

Other segments recently featured on “Good Morning America” and “World News Tonight” include the struggle of Nebraskan farmers as young adults go to work in office jobs; residents of Ithaca, N.Y., issuing and using their own currency to keep the local economy alive; and a family that has lived on a remote North Dakota ranch for five generations.
