Hands-on Arts at Michigan

Mindy Sheffen and Chamira Jones add their creative touches to a mural during a March 28 Evening with the Arts open house hosted by Arts at Michigan. The organization, which promotes the interests of art students and faculty on campus, celebrated its first year of occupancy at its S. University Street location with student musicians, hands-on art activities, refreshments and an inaugural show of student art. Nearly 200 guests joined in the celebration.

Hayley Rohn, a student program assistant for Arts at Michigan and a junior in the Residential College, ponders "A Basic Study in Hands," a stoneware sculpture by School of Art & Design student Sarah Osborn.

Arts at Michigan sponsors Campus Days advisory and information sessions for prospective students in LSA, art and design, kinesiology, engineering, music and nursing. The final session is 2:40-4:30 p.m. April 11 at 1220 S. University St. Current staff and students will answer questions about how to study the arts at U-M, how to join the many student arts organizations on campus, how to find a job in the arts, how to find the hundreds of arts resources on campus, and how to make time for the arts in a busy student schedule. For more information call (734) 764-5123 or e-mail arts@umich.edu. Photos by Paul Jaronski, U-M Photo Services
