Mary Haan, associate professor
of epidemiology, has been named to the National Institutes
of Health (NIH) Epidemiology and Disease Control 3 Study Section,
Center for Scientific Review, through 2005.
Study sections review grant applications submitted to NIH, make
recommendations to the appropriate NIH advisory council or board,
and survey the status of research in their fields of science. |

Fawwaz Ulaby, vice president for
research and the R. Jamison and Betty Williams Professor of Electrical
Engineering and Computer Science, was elected to the Oak Ridge Associated
Universities (ORAU) board of directors at the 58th annual
meeting of the ORAU Council of Sponsoring Institutions in Atlanta.
ORAU is a consortium of 88 doctoral-granting colleges and universities
that carry out a variety of programs, including efforts to increase
member university involvement in corporate work initiatives; programs
that facilitate interactions between senior industrial scientists,
faculty and students at member institutions; and those that gives
awards to junior faculty at member universities. |

Awards
Donna Erickson, associate professor of natural resources, has received a Fulbright Fellowship to conduct research at the University of
British Columbia during the 2003-04 academic year. She will collaborate with colleagues on research that analyzes greenway planning
comparatively between the United States and Canada.
