School of Education Associate Dean Jeffrey Mirel recently was appointed to the Organization of American Historians (OAH) Distinguished Lectureship Series. Currently, there are approximately 150 OAH lecturers.

Antonia Villarruel, associate professor of nursing, has been appointed a charter member of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) Health Sciences Advisory Council.

The council will guide HACU as it intensifies efforts to address the continued underrepresentation of Hispanics in the health sciences and health-related research.

Lora Bex Lempert, associate professor of sociology at U-M-Dearborn and assistant research scientist, Institute for Research on Women and Ganer, will be honored Feb. 26 with U-M-Dearborn's 25th annual Susan B. Anthony Award. The award is given annually to a member of the campus community "who exemplifies the dedication, fortitude and involvement of Susan B. Anthony," a leader in the women's suffrage movement.

Danielle Sorum, interim dance director at U-M-Flint, and Anita Bohn, director of student initiatives at the Ginsberg Center for Community Service, were honored Feb. 14 with the Michigan Campus Compact's 2003 Faculty/Staff Community Service-Learning Award. The award recognizes educators across the state for their exceptional leadership in service learning.
