OVPR nominations
The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) invites nominations
for one of two awards to be given this spring: the Distinguished Research
Administrator Award and the OVPR Exceptional Service Award. For nomination

awards.html. The deadline for nominations is Feb. 20.
In addition, OVPR is seeking nominations of outstanding research scientists
for one of three awards to be given in the fall: the Research Scientist
Recognition Award, the Research Scientist Achievement Award and the Distinguished
Research Scientist Award.

Board seeks members
The Board for Student Publications is recruiting members for three-year
terms beginning May 2003. The board is particularly interested in members
of the University community—faculty, staff and students—who
have experience and expertise in finance, development or architecture.
The board is responsible for The Michigan Daily, The Michiganensian Yearbook
and The Gargoyle Humor Magazine. The deadline for applications is Jan.

Scholarships deadline
U-M Faculty and Staff Scholarship applications for the 2003–04 academic
year are available at http://ww.finaid.umich.edu/scholapp.htm.
Any undergraduate enrolled at U-M, who is a child of a faculty or staff
member with at least a 50 percent appointment on the Ann Arbor campus,
is eligible to apply. In order to be eligible, students must demonstrate
need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid.
To be considered for the award, students must apply for financial aid
by submitting a 2003–04 Free Application for Federal Student Aid
(FAFSA) to the federal processor by March 1 (online applications may be
submitted at http://www.fafsa. ed.gov/).
They also must complete a U-M Faculty and Staff Scholarship Application

Regents to meet Jan. 16
The Board of Regents will hold its monthly meeting at 2:30 p.m. Jan. 16
in the Regents Room of the Fleming Administration Building. Public comments
will be held at 4 p.m. Individuals with disabilities who wish to attend

The Horace H. Rackham School of Graduate Studies is seeking nominations

2003 Faculty Awards: Faculty Recognition Awards (due March 14), Amoco
Awards for Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching (March 21) and Distinguished

2003 Outstanding Graduate Student Instructor Awards:
Graduate students pursuing advanced degrees who have completed at least

2003 John H. D’Arms Awards for Distinguished
Mentoring in the Humanities: Nominees must be tenured faculty in
the humanities who have directed a substantial number of dissertations

2005 Henry Russel Lectureship and 2004 Henry Russel
Award: The Russel Lectureship is awarded annually to a senior faculty
member in recognition of exceptional achievements in research and scholarship
(including creative endeavors) and an outstanding record of teaching,
mentoring and service. The Russel Award is made to a junior faculty member
and recognizes distinguished scholarship or authorship (including creativity
in the arts) and conspicuous ability as a teacher. Nominations for both
are due April 30.

Junior Faculty Career Development Program
The Career Development Program of the Head and Neck Specialized Program
of Research Excellence, in an effort to address the urgent need for an
increased number of clinicians and basic scientists devoted to head and
neck cancer research, is offering $67,500 a year to two qualified candidates,
each with a three-year commitment to establishing a head and neck research
program.
Preference will be given to assistant professors with outstanding new
translational research programs relevant to head and neck cancer. Candidates
whose prior research experience focused on a field other than head and
neck cancer also are eligible for the award. Prior head and neck research
experience is not a prerequisite. For an information packet, call (734)
