Keeping time
Renovations continue at Hill Auditorium, and work is on schedule to be completed in time for January events. It took workers five weeks to erect the scaffolding, which allows them to paint and do electrical and lighting work throughout the auditorium. Among the many completed projects: the aisles have been realigned, elevator shafts are being completed and a new wall has been erected in the balcony to replace an unstable one. Some of the other projects include: a corridor between two sets of doors that will provide a sound buffer between the lobby and auditorium; lights to create a "pearl necklace" on the ceiling; and a new concession area in the basement. Thomas Whitaker, project manager, says the contractor, Christman Co. of Lansing, has never missed an opening night in any of the auditoriums or theaters it has renovated.
