News briefsMFit fundraiser MFit and Conor O'Neill's Irish pub at 318 S. Main Street are teaming up to raise funds for the American Cancer Society (ACS). Patrons who dine at Conor O'Neill's from 11 a.m.-11 p.m. March 25 and present a coupon to the waitstaff will have 15 percent of their total bill donated to the ACS. Third annual Mini-Med School The Medical School is enrolling students in its third annual Mini-Med School, 7-9 p.m. every Tuesday from April 8-May 13, on the Medical School campus. Tuition is $75 per person, and complimentary parking will be provided. This year's program will focus on infectious disease and cover a range of subjects, including the nature of the microbial world, immunization and vaccination, diagnostic laboratory procedures, the uses and abuses of antibiotics, opportunistic infections in immunocompromised patients and HIV/AIDS, respiratory and gastrointestinal infections, the evolution and ecology of infectious diseases, emerging infections, bioterrorism and biological warfare. Space is limited. Registration forms and payment must be postmarked no later than March 25. Inauguration essay contest Michael Kennedy, vice provost for international affairs, invites undergraduate, graduate and professional school students to submit an essay in response to the March 27 academic symposium "For a University of the World." The symposium will be 2:30-4 p.m. at the Power Center and as an element of the celebration of President Mary Sue Coleman's inauguration earlier in the day. All essays will be considered for publication on the Web and in the Journal of the International Institute. The best essay will be awarded $250. Essays should be no longer than 1,000 words and are due by 5 p.m. April 2 to akehoe@umich.edu. 2004 bulbs for sale The Matthaei Botanical Gardens is offering bulbs for sale for fall 2003 planting to bloom in 2004. A wide variety of bulbs are available, and most are suitable for outdoor planting. Order forms can be picked up at the gardens at 1800 Dixboro Road between Geddes and Plymouth roads. Order forms via mail can be obtained by calling (734) 998-7061. Instructions on the form indicate how to make payment and when and how the bulbs will be delivered in the fall.
