In 2001, when he was a first-year student in the School of Art & Design studying with Leslie Raymond, Michael Evashevski submitted his paint design to the city of Ann Arbor for its new water tower on Plymouth Road. Evashevski won $100 cash, a $25 gift certificate and a paint set valued at another $100 in the contest. And now all those traveling along Plymouth Road can enjoy a blue sky and clouds that cover the 200-foot-high, 500,000-gallon water tower.

"I wanted a simple idea," Evashevski says. "Something realistic. In consideration of the painters of the tower, I kept my palette to five colors." Now a sophomore in the school, Evashevski has left a rather large mark on Ann Arbor. Should his surname ring a bell, it's because he is the grandson of Forest Evashevski, the former U-M football captain and quarterback (1940).
