Dr. Robert Lorey
After earning his dental degree in 1957, he served in the U.S. Army Dental Corps for two years before returning to Ann Arbor in 1959 to pursue a master's degree. While working for his degree in crown and bridge prosthesis, which he received in 1961, Lorey also was a clinical instructor in the Department of Crown and Bridge Prosthodontics and in the Department of Operative Dentistry. He was promoted to assistant professor in 1962, associate professor in 1967 and professor three years later. He also maintained a private practice between 1960 and 1969. In 1985, he was appointed chair of the Department of Crown and Bridge Prosthodontics. He had served as acting department chair on three previous occasions. In addition to being actively involved in professional organizations, Lorey also presented hundreds of programs to local, national, and international dental schools and societies. He produced approximately 70 videotapes for undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate education and won many honors for his photography. A memorial service was held for Lorey April 21 in Ann Arbor.
