Photo: Donating to U-M

U-M alumnus Malcolm Cox donates blood at the recently opened Red Cross blood center at 514 E. Washington. Cox, giving blood for the 102nd time, uses the center's new Tri ma automated system that maximizes the efficiency of blood donations. The facility features maize and blue décor, sports memorabilia and laptops for while-you-wait DVD viewing, which the Red Cross hopes will attract University donors. It is open Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, by appointment. The facility is one of two new Red Cross locations in Ann Arbor; the second is slated to open later this year on Packard. Both locations were chosen in order to increase blood donations to the University Hospital, one of the Southeastern Michigan Red Cross's largest clients. For more information, call (866) 879-8746.
