CRLT to conduct new faculty, GSI orientations
New Faculty Orientation
The Office of the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, and the Center for Research on Learning and Teaching (CRLT) will conduct a New Faculty Orientation 8:30 a.m.-1:45 p.m. Sept. 1 in the Michigan League. The program will include remarks by President Mary Sue Coleman and Provost Paul N. Courant, and sessions for faculty to share experiences and strategize about good teaching. An information fair will conclude the event, with representatives from University offices providing materials and answering questions. Graduate Student Instructors
CRLT
will host a Graduate Student Instructor (GSI) Teaching Orientation
1-5 p.m. Aug. 30 and 8:45 a.m.-3:45 p.m. Aug. 31 in the Michigan
League. First-day events, which will begin in the Lydia Mendelssohn
Theatre, will include an interactive theater presentation and workshops
that will help GSIs prepare strategically for the first days of teaching.
Second-day highlights include an interactive presentation on giving
effective explanations, followed by workshops on developing pedagogical
skills. The orientation will conclude with practice teaching. To
