Michigan Radio to launch 'Stateside' Jan. 5

Michigan Radio, the public radio stations of U-M, will debut its new locally produced show "Stateside" Jan. 5. It is scheduled to air weekdays at 1 p.m.

Host Charity Nebbe will guide listeners through a one-hour series of interviews, features and reports of local interest that share uniquely Michigan perspectives.

The show will bring a local context to national stories and a broader context to local stories, through conversations with colorful and interesting people.

Listeners will learn about trends in Michigan's migrating bird populations, understand the trash policies in the state, discover why farmer's markets are so appealing, hear how a Michigan craftsman makes prosthetic eyes and find out how the governor's mandate for reading to small children is expected to increase literacy.

Nebbe, who also is heard daily as local host of NPR's "All Things Considered," says, "Michigan is a really exciting place to be. The mix of urban and rural in the state makes it very complex both culturally and politically. 'Stateside' will give us a great opportunity to explore those complexities, and we'll also have some fun getting to know the people that make the state so unique."

Nebbe joined Michigan Radio in spring 2000 as a producer of "The Todd Mundt Show." Shortly thereafter she also became the local host of "All Things Considered."
