Appointments

Dr. Gilbert Omenn, professor of internal medicine and human genetics, and professor in the School of Public Health, is president-elect of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). His three-year term on the AAAS board of directors will begin in February. Omenn will assume the presidency in February 2005.

Awards

Grizzle
Sun

Jessy Grizzle, professor of electrical engineering and computer science, and Jing Sun, associate professor of naval architecture and marine engineering, are recipients of the 2003 Control Systems Technology Award of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Control Systems Society. The award, presented Dec. 11 at the 42nd IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, honors the development of fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly automotive powertrains through innovative application of control theory.

In addition, Sun recently was elected IEEE fellow for contributions to systems theory and automotive powertrain control.
