U-M swimmer Peter Vanderkaay is
one of four Wolverine student-athletes who have qualified, as of
Record press time, for the 2004 Summer Olympics next month in Athens,
Greece. Vanderkaay will be joined on the U.S. Olympic team by fellow
swimmer Dan Ketchum. Both will compete in the 800-meter freestyle
relay. Another U-M swimmer, Andrew Hurd (400-meter freestyle),
made the Canadian Olympic team, and runner Nick Willis will represent
New Zealand in the 1,500 meters. Several University alumni, athletes
and coaches with ties to U-M also will be part of the Games. For
