Miller named new Parking and Transportation Services director

David Miller has been promoted to director of Parking and Transportation Services (P&TS), Associate Vice President for Facilities and Operations Hank Baier announced March 17. Miller's appointment, which is effective immediately, follows a nationwide search.

Miller has served as interim director of P&TS since October following the retirement of Pat Cunningham. Previously, Miller was the administrative manager for P&TS.

"I am very pleased that Dave has agreed to serve as director," Baier says. "He brings a wealth of experience in financial management, strategic planning and employee involvement from his years at the University as well as his previous employment.

"Dave's knowledge and leadership will continue to benefit the University as we implement the University's Parking and Transportation Services strategic plan."

Miller has a master of science in operations research from Stanford University and a bachelor of science in electrical engineering from Michigan State University. He joined the University in 1991 as a patient relations coordinator at the University Hospital. Previously he coordinated employee programs, information services planning and budget management for Michigan Bell Telephone.

Miller and his wife, Pat, raise race horses and live in South Lyon.

P&TS provides commuter transit service for 4.5 million passengers annually; manages and maintains one of the largest vehicle fleets in the state of Michigan; and manages the University's parking system, including its 10 parking structures and numerous surface lots.
