President Mary Sue Coleman (above left)
urges graduates to take a last look at their favorite spots on
campus, but also to return soon. Julius Chambers, speaker at the
Graduate Exercises, meets with Coleman (above right). He spoke
about diversity and the legacy of the Brown v. Board
of Education U.S. Supreme Court decision. “We have moved a
long way over the past 50 years toward insuring equal opportunities
for all citizens,” he said. “We haven’t achieved our
goal, but Brown
v. Board of Education, which we commemorate this year, has helped
to make much of our progress possible.” |
