More than 12 tons of materials, including
500 bags of clothing, were donated to local charities during
this year's residence hall move-out. More than two tons of non-perishable
food, along with toiletries, was given to Food Gatherers. Purple
Heart received five tons of clothing, one ton of shoes, one ton
of blankets and pillows, and pounds of towels. U-M's Grounds
and Waste Management Recycling Program staff worked with housing
facilities personnel to collect and sort the discarded items, which
were picked up last week by several nonprofit agencies. (Photo
