Smith   Murty

Robert L. Smith , the Altarum /ERIM Russell D. O'Neal Professor of Engineering, and Katta Murty , professor of industrial and operations engineering, have been named fellows of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS). The INFORMS fellowship honors members of the organization who have demonstrated outstanding accomplishments in operations research/management science.


Mingyan Liu , assistant professor of electrical engineering and computer science, is the recipient of a National Science Foundation CAREER Award for her proposal, "Capacity-driven Design of Large-scale Wireless Sensor Networks." The CAREER program recognizes and supports the early career-development activities of teacher-scholars it considers most likely to become the academic leaders of the 21st century.


Barsan Bartlett Johnson

Three faculty members in the Medical School have been elected to the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies: Dr. William Barsan , professor and chair in the Department of Emergency Medicine and director of the U-M Health System's (UMHS) Emergency Department; Dr. Robert Bartlett , professor of surgery and director of critical care/general surgery and surgical intensive care at UMHS; and Dr. Timothy R.B. Johnson , the Bates Professor of the Diseases of Women and Children and chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
