AccoladesAppointments Steven Dierker, professor of physics, has been appointed associate laboratory director for the Light Sources Directorate at the U.S. Department of Energy's Brookhaven National Laboratory. Dierker serves a chair of the National Synchrotron Light Source Department.
Awards Janice Eckert , a unit liaison program coordinator for U-M's Administrative Information Services (MAIS) was honored Oct. 29 at the Operation ABLE "Ability is Ageless" award luncheon. Eckert received a "Most ABLE" award for recognition of her contributions to the University. The event salutes employees 50 years of age and older, or with 20 years of service to a company, who daily make a difference to their companies through their experience, work ethic and commitment to excellence. Ann Whall , professor of nursing and faculty associate in the Institute of Gerontology, is the 2003 recipient of the Doris Schwartz Gerontological Nursing Award from the Gerontological Society of America. The award will be presented Nov. 22 at the society's annual meeting in San Diego. Whall will deliver the address, "Looking Past, Looking Forward: Our Preferred Future." Dr. Mei-yu Yu , associate research scientist and director of the Healthy Asian Americans Project (HAAP) at the School of Nursing, has been honored by the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Foundation with the 2002 Excellence in Research Award in the area of policy research. Her paper entitled "Cancer Screening Promotion Among Medically Underserved Asian American Women: Integration of Research and Practice," published in Research and Theory for Nursing Practice, reported on the Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program conducted by HAAP.
