Gift shops take show on the road in time for the holidays

You can start crossing names off your holiday gift list and support various University units by taking advantage of the Gift Shop Road Show.

This is the sixth year in-house gift shops on the central and north campuses will be hitting the road with mini-stores stocked with holiday gift-giving items. Selections include live holiday plants and nature- and art-themed gifts. The sales will support valuable collections at the Museum of Art, the Exhibit Museum, Matthaei Botanical Gardens and Nichols Arboretum.

"The primary role of a gift shop in a museum setting is to generate financial support for, and to promote the mission of, the sponsoring institution," says Paulette Brown, administrative assistant at Matthaei Botanical Gardens and one of the organizers of the Road Show.

"These Road Shows accomplish both while increasing the public's awareness of the participating museums and natural areas and their importance to the university community," she says.

Stock from all the gift shops at these museums and gardens will be available 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Nov. 18 at Wolverine Tower, Suite 28.

Items from Matthaei Botanical Gardens will be available at Pierpont Commons on North Campus from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 19 and 24, and at the Student Activities Building 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 20.
