Renowned AIDS activist to speak Oct. 7 at Rackham

Larry Kramer, an internationally renowned author, playwright and AIDS activist, will deliver the third annual Horace W. Davenport Lecture in the Medical Humanities at 8 p.m. Oct. 7 in Rackham Auditorium.

He is author of the best-selling novel "Faggotts," and a book of political writings, "Reports for the Holocaust: The Story of an AIDS activist." Kramer's visit is sponsored, in part, by the Office of the President and Office of the Provost. A book signing will follow the lecture.

Michigan Visiting Nurses to offer flu shots

This season, don't let the flu get you—get immunized at one of Michigan Visiting Nurses' (MVN) fall immunization clinics. This year, more vaccine is available, so people of all ages are encouraged to get immunized as soon as possible.

MVN clinics will be held October-December at many sites in southeast Michigan and Ohio, and are open to the general public, 18 years and older. Flu shots for children 12 years and older, who are accompanied by a parent or guardian, also will be available at select sites. Flu shots are $17 each. MVN will bill for those with Medicare-Part B who are not part of an HMO.

The immunization clinic dates begin Oct. 2 in Ypsilanti and run throughout the month in Ann Arbor, Brighton, Manchester and many other cities. Call MVN at (734) 677-0020 or visit http://www.umvn.com for a complete list of sites, which will be updated periodically. MVN, part of the U-M Health System, is a nonprofit organization.

In addition, businesses may contact MVN at http://www.umvn.com to schedule an on-site flu immunization clinic for their employees.
