Assembly puts administrator evaluations on Web
By Kevin BergquistThe Senate Assembly has voted to share with the campus community results of the first round of faculty evaluations of the University's top administrators.
About 30 percent of eligible faculty members participated last fall in a Web survey that allowed them to evaluate the president, provost and their deans and department chairs. A total of 864 faculty members completed 2,511 surveys.
Before the April 18 action the results had been posted to a secure Web site, accessible only by members of the University Senate and the Board of Regents. They became available for pubic viewing April 21 at: http://aec.umich.edu.
"This information should be accessible without restrictions," said Jon Rush, professor of art & design, who made the motion to make the results public. "It should be as simple and straightforward as possible."
The Administration Evaluation Committee (AEC) will conduct its next round of evaluations Nov. 1-15.
The AEC evaluation is independent of the formal process conducted by the regents and the executive officers.
