Photo: Gandhi Lounge goes live

Guest speaker Nita Kumar, visiting professor of history, lectures at the dedication of the Mahatma Gandhi Minority Council Lounge April 17. The council decided in 2001 to dedicate the lounge, located in Oxford Housing, to the Indian spiritual and political civil rights leader. It said the values Gandhi exemplified in his life should be universal to all students—particularly people of color—and that his name could represent the diverse student population of Oxford Housing. Kelly Comfort, an interior designer in Plant Extension, provided the design, which features Indian-style furnishings and murals designed by John Copley.
