The U-M Retirees Association will meet at 3:15 p.m. Sept. 8 at the Best Western Motel, 2900 Jackson Ave. in Ann Arbor. Attendees should enter at the Ballroom entrance.

Carol Hollenshead, director of the Center for Education of Women and chair of the U-M President's Advisory Committee on Women's Issues, will speak. Her topic will be "Women at the University of Michigan: Progress, Prospects, and Problems."

New Faculty Orientation planned for Aug. 31

The Office of the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and the Center for Research on Learning and Teaching (CRLT) will conduct a New Faculty Orientation to introduce all new faculty to the University from 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Aug. 31 in the Michigan League.

The program will include remarks by President Mary Sue Coleman and Interim Provost Edward M. Gramlich, as well as interactive sessions in which faculty can share experiences and strategize about good teaching. An information fair will be included in the event, with representatives from key University offices providing materials and answering questions about life at U-M.

IM sports registration opens Sept. 6

Registration for 2005-06 intramural sports begin Sept. 6 and will continue throughout the year:

• Sand Volleyball Tournament registration begins 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Sept. 6 and ends Sept. 21 at the Intramural Sports Building (IMSB). Tournament dates are Sept. 24-25.

A mandatory manager meeting is scheduled for Sept. 22. The tournament will be conducted at Elbel Field.

• Ultimate Frisbee Tournament registration is Sept. 6-Sept. 21 at the IMSB. The tournament is Sept. 24-25. at Mitchell Field.

A mandatory manager meeting will take place Sept. 22.

• Track and Field Meet registration is Sept. 6-Oct. 4 at the IMSB. The meet will be held at the Indoor Track Building Oct. 6.

A mandatory manager meeting is Oct. 4.

• Golf Tournament registration is at the IMSB Sept. 6-Oct. 5 The tournament is Oct. 9 at the U-M Golf Course.

• Pre-season Flag Football Tournament registration is Sept. 6-Oct. 19 at the IMSB. tournament will be Oct. 21-23 at Mitchell Field .

A mandatory managers meeting is Oct. 20.

• Cross Country Meet registration is at the IMSB Sept. 6-Oct. 27. The meet is Oct. 29 at Mitchell Field/Gallup Park.

• Dodgeball Tournament registration is at the IMSB Sept. 6-Nov. 30. The tournament is Dec. 2-4.

A mandatory managers meeting will be conducted Dec. 1.

• Wrestling Meet registration is at the IMSB Sept. 6-Dec. 1 for the meet at the Sports Coliseum Dec. 6- 8.

A mandatory manager meeting is Dec. 1.
