Photo: Class to promote car seat safety

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says more than 80 percent of car seats and about 40 percent of booster seats are used incorrectly, making a child 3.5 times more likely to be seriously injured in a crash. To raise awareness and prevent avoidable injury, SAFE KIDS Washtenaw County and Carnahan Chevrolet are providing free, 30-minute car seat inspections on a drop-in basis 2-6 p.m. Feb. 15 at Carnahan Chevrolet, 770 James L. Hart Parkway, Ypsilanti. Certified child passenger safety technicians will train parents and caregivers in the proper installation and setup of their car seats. In addition to the seats, participants are asked to bring their children and vehicle owner's manuals. (Photo courtesy UMHS Public Relations)
