  United Way campaign
Giving thanks for giving back

In 2004, faculty and staff opened their hearts and generously gave to the annual United Way campaign. With the help of such campaigns, the Washtenaw United Way topped its goal by $45,618, raising $7.9 million.

The money raised will go to 36 local health and human service agencies, as well as community affiliates in Milan, Dexter and Saline. These agencies provide critical services such as health care for the uninsured, homeless shelters and family counseling. Many contributions also will be forwarded to the hundreds of other agencies designated by contributors.

U-M's campaign raised an impressive $805,930, but fell just short of its goal. More than 2,000 people donated, including 254 Leadership Givers—those who pledged more than $1,000. U-M had the most Leadership Givers of any employer in the county.

Cynthia Wilbanks, vice president for government relations and the University's United Way chairwoman, thanks the faculty and staff for their generous support.

"Their contributions continue a proud University tradition of giving back to the community," she says. "I hope that all employees consider contributing so that we can maintain our high level of support for this vital organization that improves the lives of so many people—including members of our University family."
