Letter to the editor
University Diversity Council statement
on same-sex domestic partner benefits

To the editor:
The University Diversity Council, an appointed committee of 30 faculty and staff from across the University of Michigan community in Ann Arbor, joins the president and executive officers in their steadfast support of same-sex domestic partner benefits for U-M faculty and staff offered since 1995. This support represents an important demonstration of the University’s commitment to an inclusive, safe, and welcoming community with respect and equity for all its members. We embrace all members of our outstanding workforce who help make this the open community and world-class university it is. We, the members of the University Diversity Council, offer our assistance to the president, executive officers and members of the university community in sustaining this commitment.

The University Record welcomes letters from members of the University community. Those on topics of broad University interest will be given preference for publication. Letters should be no more than 500 words and must be signed. The editorial staff reserves the right to reject any letter and to edit and/or condense letters for publication. The staff also reserves the right to limit the number of letters submitted by the same individual. Letters may appear in small type. Organizations submitting material must include the name and address of an appropriate officer. Letters must be received by noon Wednesday to receive consideration for publication in the next issue.
