OVPR leadership search underwayThe vice president is responsible for the unit that has seen steady growth in dollars spent on research. In fiscal year 2003 expenditures were up 14.3 percent to nearly $750 million. Advisory committee members will conduct a national search for candidates to fill the University's top research position and report back to Coleman, with a goal of filling the position during summer 2005. Fawwaz Ulaby, who has served as vice president for research since 1999, will return to the faculty this summer. Dr. Raymond Ruddon, senior associate dean of research and graduate studies, and professor of pharmacology in the Medical School, is chair of the committee. Other members are: Kerwin Charles, associate professor of public policy, Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy; associate professor of economics, LSA; faculty associate, Survey Research Center, Institute for Social Research Noreen Clark, dean and Marshall H. Becker Professor of Public Health, and professor of health behavior and health education, School of Public Health (SPH) Michael Combi, research professor and distinguished research scientist, Atmospheric, Oceanic and Space Sciences, College of Engineering (CoE); member, Senate Advisory Committee on University Affairs and Research Policies Committee Cinda-Sue Davis, program director, Women in Science and Engineering Janet Gilsdorf, professor of pediatric-infectious diseases, Medical School; professor of epidemiology, SPH Sharon Glotzer, associate professor of materials science and engineering, associate professor of chemical engineering, and associate professor of macromolecular engineering, CoE; associate professor of physics, LSA Erdogan Gulari, Donald L. Katz Collegiate professor of engineering and professor of chemical engineering, CoE Holly Hughes, associate professor of theatre and drama, School of Music; assistant professor of art and design, School of Art & Design Vahid Lotfi, associate provost and professor of management sciences, School of Management, U-M-Flint Henry Pollack, professor of geological sciences, LSA Carolyn Sampselle, Carolyne K. Ross School of Business; professor of public policy, Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy. In the fall, Coleman authorized a review of OVPRpreparatory to recruiting a new vice presidentby an ad hoc review team composed of faculty. The search advisory committee is expected to conduct its search with the final report of the President's Ad Hoc Review Team in mind. The review team report is due Feb. 1.
