A student attempts to cross Plymouth Road at one of the Ann Arbor's pedestrian crossings. The city of Ann Arbor installed pedestrian refuge islands between Murfin Avenue and Nixon Road to help people crossing to and from North Campus. City officials say about 25,000 cars a day travel along this stretch of Plymouth Road. Posted speeds were reduced to 35 m.p.h. in the area shortly after a 2003 accident in which two U-M students were killed while crossing the road near the Islamic Center of Ann Arbor.
