Coleman to participate in women's summit

President Mary Sue Coleman will participate in a panel discussion
March 11 to discuss the status of women in Michigan today and challenges they face in the future.

The Michigan Women's Summit 2005: Challenges to Equity will kick off a statewide women's public education campaign on the benefits of affirmative action and outreach programs for women.

Gov. Jennifer Granholm, Michigan State University (MSU) President Lou Anna K. Simon, Western Michigan University (WMU) President Judith Bailey and Lake Superior State University (LSSU) President Betty Youngblood also will participate.

The summit will take place 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in four locations linked by satellite and teleconference. They are: 103 Erickson Hall, MSU; University Center, U-M-Dearborn; Fetzer Center, WMU; and the Cisler Center, LSSU.

The event is sponsored by various groups, including the American Association of University Women of Michigan; Coalition of Labor Union Women, Metro Detroit; Michigan Business and Professional Women; Michigan League of Women Voters, Michigan Women's Commission and the National Women's Political Caucus.
