"First, I am going to play darts, then take my teddy bear sledding "Jeffrey Schroeder, sustainability director for University Housing, Carole Henry, director of University Housing, and Tracy Artley, waste and recycling coordinator, display some of the more unusual items students left behind after moving out of residence halls in late April. The mound of clothes, books, lamps, microwaves, and more behind them is only a portion of all that was collected by the University as part of its "Don't dump it. Donate it" campaign, held in cooperation with the City of Ann Arbor. Artley says this year's yield produced more unopened food than expected, which will be taken to Food Gatherers. Other items to be donated include, egg-crate foam mattresses, which will go to Friends in Deed of Washtenaw County; and bedding for Caring Quilts, a program that provides bedrolls to homeless shelters and warming stations throughout Southeast Michigan.
