Michigan Radio's on-air fall fund drive sets records

Michigan Radio, the public radio stations of U-M, set a single-day pledge record by raising $188,000 Oct. 22—the final day of its on-air fall fund drive. This record helped Michigan Radio raise more than $894,000 for the entire drive.

The preliminary total is more than a 20 percent increase over the fall 2003 fund drive—another Michigan Radio record.

The fall drive raised money through a variety of sources, including:

• More than $772,000 in on-air pledges

• About $122,400 in corporate support linked to first-time and renewing member incentives.

The increase in listener support will help Michigan Radio keep pace with rising costs in programming and production, says Michigan Public Media's deputy director Michael P. Coleman. Membership dollars provide more than half of Michigan Radio's current annual operating budget of more than $4 million.

"Increased dollars and new members were two critical goals for our fund drive this fall," Coleman says.

"We were able to excel in both areas realizing again that Michigan Radio listeners and members place a significant value on the services we provide."
