News Briefs
W-2s will be mailed in late January

The University Payroll Office will mail 2004 Form W-2 Wage and Tax Statements during the week of Jan. 24. To ensure prompt delivery by the U.S. Postal Service, faculty and staff must have their current home address in the University's central Human Resource Management System M-Pathways database. Home address updates can be made via the Web using the "My Personal Data" option in Wolverine Access (http://wolverineaccess.umich.edu/index.jsp). Address updates also may be made using "Address Change Request" forms available from the Human Resources Records and Information Services Office at (734) 615-2000 or Health System Human Resources at (734) 647-2385.

Buy savings bonds online, use payroll deduction

The University Payroll Office has announced that the U.S. Treasury is offering a Web-based system for faculty and staff to establish online accounts to manage U.S. Savings Bonds. Interested faculty and staff can visit http://www.TreasuryDirect.gov to create an account to purchase, hold and conduct transactions with bonds. After they have set up an account with TreasuryDirect, participants can complete a Direct Deposit Authorization Form to request a fixed amount of net pay each pay period to be directed to their TreasuryDirect account. The Direct Deposit Authorization Form is available on the Payroll Web site at http://www.payroll.umich.edu/formreq.html. The minimum savings bond purchase is $25. Faculty and staff also can purchase paper savings bonds through payroll deduction. The "U.S. Savings Bond Deduction Authorization Form" also is available on the Payroll Web site.

Bus service and parking enforcement holiday hours

The U-M Commuter buses, the Ann Arbor Transportation Authority (AATA) fixed-route buses and A-Ride Paratransit service will not operate Thanksgiving day (Nov. 25).

The U-M Commuter bus service also will not operate Nov. 26, though AATA will resume regular service. Parking enforcement will be suspended for permits and meter fees in all parking areas except the Simpson Circle Structure (Mott structure) on Thursday and Friday.

New Student Programs publication honored

The Office of New Student Programs recently was honored at the National Orientation Directors Association (NODA) Conference for its Parent Orientation Resource Guide. The guide won NODA's "Outstanding Publication for Family Members" award in the publications and media showcase. The guide, designed and edited by student services associate Erika Johnson, is provided to families who attend Parent Orientation during the summer. It includes notes from the orientation presentations and a section on "Parenting a College Student," which addresses transition issues and includes tips from parents who have sent children off to college.
