ISR director search advisory committee named

Members of a search advisory committee charged with recommending finalists for the position of director of the Institute for Social Research (ISR) will meet for the first time next week.

ISR Director David Featherman will step down from the position in June, days shy of one decade after he assumed the leadership role in one of the world's oldest and most respected social science survey research organizations, says Provost Paul N. Courant.

"I have long believed that ISR is an integral element in this University's greatness," Courant says. "David Featherman's leadership has contributed to that greatness through his emphasis on research initiatives within the University, research collaborations with more than 60 nations, and establishment of several new programs, including the Population Studies Center (PSC), the Center for Advancing Research and Solutions for Society (CARSS), and the Michigan Census Research Data Center."

James Hilton, associate provost for academic, information and instructional technology affairs and professor of psychology, will chair the search advisory committee. Other members are:

William Axinn, professor of sociology, LSA, and research professor for the PSC and the Survey Research Center (SRC) at ISR

Noreen Clark, dean and Marshall H. Becker Collegiate Professor of Public Health, School of Public Health (SPH)

Mary Corcoran, professor of public policy, Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy; professor of social work, School of Social Work; professor of political science and women's studies, LSA; and research associate professor, SRC

Richard Gonzalez, professor and chair, Psychology Department, LSA

Margaret Hedstrom, associate professor, School of Information, and faculty associate, Inter-university Consortium for Political
and Social Research-Administration

Arthur Lupia, professor of political science, LSA, and research professor, Center for Political Studies

Lisa Neidert, senior research associate, PSC

Robert Schoeni, associate professor, Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy and LSA, and research associate professor, PSC and the SRC-Panel Study of Income Dynamics

David R. Williams, professor of sociology, LSA, and senior research scientist, SRC
