Betsy Foxman, School of Public Health professor of epidemiology and director of the Center for Molecular and Clinical Epidemiology of Infectious Diseases, has been elected president of the American College of Epidemiology (ACE) for 2005-06. ACE serves the interests of its members through sponsorship of scientific meetings, publications and educational activities, recognizing outstanding contributions to the field and advocating for issues pertinent to epidemiology.

Lois Verbrugge, research professor and senior distinguished research scientist at the Institute of Gerontology in the Geriatrics Center, has been awarded an international fellowship in the Asia Research Institute at the National University of Singapore. During 2004-05, her research will include creating new disability theory about older adults and developing collaborative projects with other researchers at the institute.

Anthony England, associate dean for academic affairs in the College of Engineering, and professor of electrical engineering and computer science and of atmospheric, oceanic, and space sciences, is the recipient of the 2004 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Judith A. Resnik Award.

The award, which celebrates outstanding contributions to space engineering, is being given to England for his significant contributions to the development and application of spaceborne microwave radiometry to remote sensing.

England will receive the award Sept. 23 at the International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium.
