News BriefsTaubman College publications honored The Taubman College of Architecture + Urban Planning (TCAUP) received two awards in the University and College Design Association's annual design competition. "Portico," the college's alumni publication, and "Century," a development booklet created for The Michigan Difference campaign, each received excellence awards in their respective categories. Contributors included Mary Anne Drew and Janice Harvey, TCAUP development and alumni relations, Dean Douglas Kelbaugh, and "Century" writer Linda Fitzgerald. Taubman's Ken Arbogast-Wilson, coordinator of media production, designed both pieces, which were printed by Printing Services. Women of Color Task Force seeks Woman of the Year nominations The Women of Color Task Force is accepting nominations from managers, supervisors, department chairs, directors and deans for its Woman of the Year Awards. The awards are part of a staff recognition program created by the task force in 1986 to honor staff and faculty members whose outstanding professional and personal contributions have improved the quality of life for people of color within the University community. Awards are given in the areas of leadership (outstanding service as a project leader, administrator or peer leader), human relations (improved group dynamics within the University community, at the unit level or beyond) and community service. Cancer Center seeks volunteers The Comprehensive Cancer Center's Patient Education Resource Center is seeking volunteers with strong communication skills and a working knowledge of the Internet to help patients and families find information about cancer. Volunteers must be able to work one four-hour shift per week during regular business hours. This Information Technology Central Services (ITCS) service is not included in the basic computing package. Beginning Oct. 1, faculty and staff who do not establish a funding source will not have access to the service. Appropriate funding sources include a departmental shortcode, a self-funded account or a U-M Online account. New Night Ride/Holiday Ride phone number A new telephone number for Night Ride and Holiday Ride, Ann Arbor's shared-ride taxi services, will go into effect Oct. 1. The Ann Arbor Transportation Authority (AATA), which subcontracts the taxi services, will change the number to (734) 528-5432. Night Ride runs from 11 p.m.-6 a.m. Monday through Friday and 7 p.m.-7:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, when AATA fixed-route bus service does not operate. Holiday Ride operates on New Year's Day, Easter, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas day, when AATA fixed-route bus service does not operate.
