"Hot 8" band to perform benefit for Jazz FoundationProceeds from ticket sales will go to the Jazz Foundation of America. This organization since Katrina has provided assistance with housing, locating and distributing donated instruments, funding performances in schools and shelters, and connecting musicians with opportunities for employment across the United States. Band members also are scheduled to participate in two The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Symposium discussion events Jan. 25 and 26. Attendees get a free CD at the door. The benefit concert is presented by Arts at Michigan with support of the Center for Afro American and African Studies, the Office of the Senior Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, School of Music, University Musical Society, the LSA Dean's Office-Undergraduate Education, Fighting Obstacles Knowing Ultimate Success student arts organization, the Michigan Theater, the Office for Academic Multicultural Initiatives annual MLK Symposium, and the University Activities Club.
